Dan was a devout Christian and member of Cornerstone Church in Caledonia. He was the founder, owner, and operator of Honey-Do Construction. Dan was a generous giver of time, skills, and resources, often participating in church mission trips to impoverished areas of the U.S. to help with home repairs or assisting in creating clean water infrastructure to areas of Africa.
Family was everything to Dan. He dedicated his adult life to raising his two sons, Daniel and Devan, often as a single father. He was proud of the men they became and even prouder of his four grandchildren: Annie, Ellie, Abe, and Eddie.
Dan was born February 22, 1966, in Battle Creek. He grew up in Albion, where he was well known, along with brother, Don, as one of the Jennings twins. After graduating from Albion High School in 1984, Dan moved to Hillsdale and started a family. There, he developed his lifelong love of building at McCall Home Center under mentor, Jim McCall. He relocated to Caledonia in 2000 and eventually started his own business, Honey-Do, which will continue under leadership of son and partner, Devan.
Dan is survived by his sons Daniel J. and Devan; grandchildren Annaleigh, Ellieleigh, Abraham, and Edward Jennings; father, James (Barbara) Jennings; brothers Donald and Zeke Jennings, and Shane and Trevor Henry; sisters Tennille Henry and Jessica Michilizzi; special aunt, Susan Schreur; special cousins Shauna (Jeffrey) Allchin and Jeffrey (Angela) Schreur; and stepmother, Sandra Henry. He is preceded in death by his mother, Sandra (Wood) Jennings; first wife, Katherine Marie (Sines) Jennings; special uncle, William Schreur; and John Patrick Henry.
Per Dan’s wishes, the family will forgo a traditional funeral in favor of an outdoor celebration of life cookout later this summer. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their guest book online.
