Geraldine “Gerry” M. Van Sweden (née Burgess), age 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Railside Assisted Living Center. Gerry was born February 1, 1930 to Harry and Ellen Burgess (née Kreidler). In addition to her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence (Nick) Van Sweden in 1989; and nine brothers and four sisters.
Surviving is her son, Edward Van Sweden of Byron Center; granddaughters Christine (Brad) Swift of Hudsonville and Debra (Aaron) Wright of Grand Rapids; great-grandsons Mason Swift, Connor Swift, and Hudson Wright. Also surviving is Gerry’s special niece, Carol Sue Blacquire, who was like a daughter to her; and her brother-in-law, Marvin (Dolores) Van Sweden; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Railside Living Center in Byron Center for their compassionate care of Gerry in the last three years.
A service celebrating Gerry’s life will be held 12 p.m. Monday, November 27, 2023 at Cook Funeral Home (Byron Center Chapel), 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315, with visitation from 10-11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Gerry will be laid to rest at Winchester Cemetery next to Nick. In memory of Gerry and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice or Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Center.
