

On March 9, 2024, Gordy, a devoted husband, loving father, and honored veteran, passed away peacefully after a courageous, but brief, battle with aggressive cancer. He was 76 years old. Gordy is preceded in passing by his parents Ralph and Geraldine Meyer. Gordy leaves behind a loving family including his wife of 42 years, Nancy; and six children Christi (Frank) Meyer, Trisha (Joe) Harkema, Jennifer (Kristen) Meyer, Sherrie (Bryan) Winchester, Kimberly (Madison) Meyer, and Michael (Hanna) Meyer. Gordy was immensely proud of his children, and he cherished the joy they brought him, as well as his five grandchildren. Additionally, Gordy is survived by his five siblings Randy (Diana) Meyer, Leo (Cher) Meyer, Merrie (Jack) DeVries, Barb (late Jim) Jansma, and Rog (Kris) Meyer; including many nieces and nephews.
Born in Grand Rapids, MI, Gordy lived a life marked by dedication, bravery, and unwavering love for his family and country. Serving his nation with valor, he bravely fought in the Vietnam War, where he demonstrated incredible courage and was awarded the Purple Heart for his sacrifices.
Gordy found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as fishing, spending time outdoors, and relaxing with loved ones, especially his children, with whom he created lasting memories filled with love and laughter.
Beyond his military service and family life, Gordy was admired by many for his unwavering spirit and generosity. He touched the lives of countless individuals with his warmth and genuine nature, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In his final days, Gordy faced his illness with remarkable bravery and dignity, despite the aggressive nature of the cancer and the short duration of the battle. Surrounded by the love of his family and friends, he showed immense strength and resilience.
A celebration of Gordy’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service, where family and friends will gather to honor his remarkable journey and pay tribute to the legacy he leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Gordy’s memory.
