Shawn Colleen VanNest (Smallwood), age 59, entered the gates of Heaven, peacefully surrounded by family in Byron Center, MI on November 15, 2023. Shawn was born November 26, 1963 to John and Joyce Smallwood of Coleman, MI. They preceded her in death along with her sisters Denise Quinn and Sonja Sturgeon; and father-in-law, Ray VanNest. Shawn is survived by her husband of 36 years, Thomas VanNest; children Dora (Josh) Wiersma and Kecia VanNest; precious grandchildren Faye, Wren, Kari, and Remi; siblings James Smallwood (Beaverton, MI), John Smallwood (Dorr, MI); brothers-in-law Todd (Annette) VanNest (Byron Center, MI), Tony (Shannon) VanNest (Allegan, MI); mother-in-law, Loretta VanNest (Byron Center); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Shawn was a loving, patient wife, mother, and friend. Every conversation with her left you feeling better about yourself.
A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Caledonia Christian Reformed Church (9957 Cherry Valley Ave. SE, Caledonia, MI 49316), followed by a luncheon.
