Richard E. Johnson Sr.

Richard E. Johnson Sr., age 80. of Crown Point, formerly of Calumet City, passed away suddenly January 16,2013. He was welcomed into heaven by his loving wife of 49 years, Joan nee (Krapac). Gene is survived by three children, Rick (Dianne) Johnson Greg Johnson and Sandee (Curt) Ballard. he is also survived by his only brother Loryl (JoEtta) Johnson and family friend Peter Truong. He was a cherished grandfather to Kayla and Rylee Ballard, and Lauren and Evan Johnson and the late Kelsey Ballard. Gene was preceded in death by his sisters Helen, Juanita, Alberta, Irene, Gerri and Carole.

Gene was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired after 32 years at Lever Brothers where he was a active union member. He was a avid Notre Dame football and IU basketball fan Dame football and IU basketball fan and a life-long agonized Cubs fan. He enjoyed donating to casinos around the world. Gene loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.

A visitation will be held at Hennessy-Nowak Funeral Home 400 Pulaski Rd.(154 th.St.) Calumet City on Sunday, January 20, from 2-7 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Monday January 21.at 10:00 A.M. at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Calumet City. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. To honor Gene's memory, the family asks for memorial donations to be made to Children's Hospital of Wisconsion, St. Andrew's Church Repair Fund , or a charity of your choice.
