Peacefully at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Beloved daughter of the late William and Florence Buchner. Barbara was born and raised in Galt but her career as a virologist and epidemiologist took her to Toronto, Ottawa and around the world. She was an active member and elder of Central Presbyterian Church throughout her life. Barbara always found many hours to volunteer in her community giving time to Cambridge Memorial Hospital, The Red Cross, The Canadian Hearing Society, and the Canadian Cancer Society. Passionate about bridge, cribbage, knitting and the Blue Jays, Barbara remained engaged to the end, reading the Globe and Mail daily. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her many friends, especially Gloria Coppes, Ruth Kenins, Sharon Manchee, and Nan Mills and their families. Friends may call at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, October 24th. Funeral service will be held at Central Presbyterian Church, Cambridge on October 25th at 1 pm. For those who wish, donations in Barbara’s name may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders.
