

Born in Battersea, London, England, Barbara was the cherished daughter of George and Ivy Preston. In 1957, she emigrated to Canada – Cambridge/Mississauga, where she built her life and established lasting roots. Mother of Michael Beirens (Susan) and Julia LaCroix (Dwayne 2012.) Nannie to four grandchildren, Amanda Beirens-Asher (Chris), Dustin LaCroix (Julie), Derek Beirens (Stephanie) and Remington LaCroix (Robin) and great-nannie to seven.
Mrs. Seawright spent more than 30 years working as a secretary with the Waterloo Region District School Board, primarily at Coronation Street Public School. Barbara was known for her reliability, organization, and dedication to her role, taking pride in her work and her long-standing career.
In her quieter moments, Barb found happiness in a good book, puzzles, crosswords, and cheering on sporting events on television. A talented and patient knitter, she created countless beautiful pieces. Barbara took great pride in her garden, enjoying flowers, planting, weeding, and sowing. She maintained a productive vegetable garden and looked forward each spring to planting anew. She had a clear appreciation for colour, particularly yellow and orange.
In her younger years, Barbara enjoyed boating and treasured the friendships she made at Fifty Point Marina in Stoney Creek. Barb enjoyed travel and returned to the United Kingdom nearly every summer, staying connected to her roots, and fondly recalled her many European adventures with her brother, Frank.
Later in life, Barb deeply cherished her time at Kressview Springs, where she enjoyed coffee club, social dinners, and the companionship of dear friends. Especially grateful to those who assisted her with appointments and daily life, these friendships she valued immensely.
Always well dressed, with hair neatly kept and clothing carefully chosen, Barb valued presentation and routine. Until the end of her life, she remained fiercely independent, driving herself around town in her little car and offering help to friends whenever she was able.
Barbara will be remembered for her independence, practicality, and the life she shaped through friendships and personal interests. Her presence will be missed by those who knew her.
