Loving husband to Dale, married for 49 years. Devoted father to Robert Bowers (Sandra). Proud Poppa to Aidan and Griffen Bowers. Brother to Barbara Grocock and Cindy Stirling (Rob). Predeceased by his beloved daughter and artist Sheri Lee Bowers, brother-in-law Reg Grocock, and his parents Rita and Daniel Bowers. Danny will be forever remembered by his extended family and many friends.
Born September 2, 1946 in Kirkland Lake, ON, he grew up in the nearby mining community of Dobie. Danny attended Kirkland Lake Collegiate and was an active member of the 288 Royal Canadian Air Cadet squadron. He met the love of his life and life-long partner, Dale, at the University of Western Ontario, from which he later graduated 1969. Danny became a very proud father with the birth of Rob in 1968 and again with Sheri in 1971. During the early part of his career he worked for IBM in London, Kitchener and Toronto. In 1976, he moved with his family to Honeydale Farm in Campbellville, ON where Danny became a “gentleman farmer” and indulged his passion for bee keeping. Here he started his consulting firm, Honeydale Computer Management Skills Inc., and later Delegated Marketing with business partner Jan Draijer. Danny worked in numerous industries including IT, international marketing, medical technology, software development, and vision care. It was a joyful occasion when he welcomed grandsons, Aidan in 2000, and Griffen in 2002, into the family. Shortly after his daughter Sheri’s unexpected passing in 2009, Danny’s battle with cancer began. Two years later he was further diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. In 2012, the farm was sold and Danny and Dale moved to Cambridge, ON.
Not to be beaten, Danny hosted his Living Funeral Celebration of Life with a multitude of family and friends. He said he wanted his funeral to be the best party and he wanted to be at it! Danny’s positive determination allowed him to outlast the six-month prognosis and continue to live life on his terms for the next six years. Throughout his life, Danny was a beacon of optimism and positive energy. He saw the good in all people and opportunity in all things. He has been and will continue to be an inspiration to all those who knew him. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die”, Thomas Campbell.
Thanks go to the many people who supported him throughout his battle: sister-in-law Lynda Schneider, “Dan the Man’s” incredible nurses Pat, Joanne and Becky from Paramed (WWLHIN team), family physician Dr. Carolyn Malec, Jarovinski Cancer Centre’s Dr. Zbuc, Dr. Marcaccio and colleagues, and Cambridge Memorial Hospital Medical doctors and staff.
In lieu of flowers, Danny can be remembered by donating to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation’s “We Care CMH” campaign (www.cmhfoundation.ca).
