It is with deep love that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Patterson at the remarkable age of 104. Born in Ireland and raised in Manitoba, Dorothy spent most of her life in Cambridge, Ontario, where she built a warm and joyful home filled with love and laughter.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Hugh Patterson and a devoted mother to Greg (Elaine) and Nancy (Ian). Predeceased by her eldest son Gary (Irene). She was a cherished grandmother to Taylor, Aaron, Alex and Bronwen, and a proud great-grandmother to Lyric. She was a guiding light in their lives – her gentle heart, unwavering support, and quick wit left a lasting mark on all who knew her.
She helped raise her grandchildren with boundless empathy, always offering comfort, kindness, and a listening ear. Dorothy loved nature, gardening, animals, a good shopping trip, and sharing muffins and coffee with her daughter and best friend, Nancy. A lifelong member of the Central Dumfries Women’s Institute and a devout Christian, she found joy in the little things – watching The Young and the Restless, listening to Celtic Thunder, reading fiction and Billy Graham, or simply making others smile with her signature bad jokes (which she always laughed at herself).
Dorothy thrived well into her later years, touching lives with her humor, warmth, and youthful spirit. People often said she didn’t look a day over 70. Her secret? Tea, porridge, and a loving heart that never grew old.
The family would like to thank the staff at Caressant Care Harriston for their compassionate care and kindness throughout Dorothy’s final years.
We will miss her dearly, but her spirit lives on in the laughter she inspired, the love she gave so freely, and the memories we will forever carry.
A private family service has been held.
