

George William Fowler was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, George will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
George was born on December 22, 1921 at home on Moscrip Road in Galt, Ontario. He was the son of Alfred Richard Fowler and Helen Clark "Nellie". George grew up in Galt, Ontario.
George was raised with seven siblings. He had four brothers William, Alfred, Edward and Len and three sisters Florie, Kay and Evelyn. George was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
A typical teenager, George had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. While attending Galt Collegiate Institute (G.C.I) he enjoyed some classes more than others, having favourite subjects and teachers.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, George enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. Later in life, he became friends with Bill Underwood.
On July 25th, 1948 George exchanged wedding vows with Mary Agnus Hodgson at Knox United Church of Ayr, Ontario. Empathic and loyal, George was committed to making his new family happy.
George worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. George was blessed with two children, Mary Lou Sandra and Carol Anne. Another blessing for George was the gift of five grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Michael, David and Gregory and three great-grandchildren, Sabastien, Stefan and Logan.
Fortunately, George enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, George worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was a foreman in a shoe factory. He was employed and worked his whole life for Savage Shoes. George always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
George found pleasure in sports. George was also some what of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favourite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Top on his list was Hockey - The Toronto Maple Leafs.
Throughout his life, George was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Throughout his later years, George was an active member of the First United Church Friendship Club and the Mens Club.
George’s faith was important to him. He was a member of First United Church for 60 years.
George enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favourite vacations included going to Port Elgin.
When George’s retirement finally arrived in 1986, he was well prepared. Even in retirement, George continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. George was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him.
George passed away on April 10, 2012 at Stirling Heights Nursing Home in Cambridge, Ontario. George lived a long full life and passing was age related. He is survived by his children Mary Lou and Carol; his grandchildren Amanda, Ashley, Michael and Gregory; and his great-grandchildren Sebastien, Stefan and Logan. Services were held at T. Little Funeral Home & Cremation Centre. George was laid to rest in Mount View Cemetery in Cambridge, Ontario.
Simply stated, George was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. George leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember George William Fowler.

FOWLER, George William; peacefully passed away at Stirling Heights Long Term Care Centre on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in his 91st year. Predeceased by his loving wife Mary (nee Hodgson) 1988. Cherished father of Mary Lou (Paul) Perrin and Carol Whitehead. Proud grandfather to Amanda (Michel) Carriere, Ashley (Adam) Beke, Michael and Gregory Perrin. Great-grandpa to Sebastien and Stefan Carriere and Logan Beke. George is predeceased by grandson David Perrin 2008. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and friends. Friends and family will be received at the T. LITTLE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 223 Main Street, Cambridge (519-623-1290) on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 6-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Mount View Cemetery, Cambridge. Special thanks for all the compassionate support given by the staff of Stirling Heights Long Term Care Centre.
