

Born October 1, 1917 in Shoe Cove, NFLD and passed away suddenly on October 22, 2016 at her cottage home McCullough Lake, Williamsford, Ontario. Gertie was predeceased by her first husband, Herb Poole, her second husband, Gus Simons and her son, Roy Poole. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Joan Dixon (Harry) and her son, Ed Poole (June). Beloved Grandmother to eight grandchildren: Michael Poole (Mary), Bonnie Etmanskie (Pat), Tanden Dixon, Geoff Dixon, Chad Poole, Danielle Kohlberger (Jeff), Craig Poole (Malisa) and Andrew Poole (Effie), as well as six great-grandchildren: Rachael, Jacob, Leah, Julianne, Angelina and Andrew). Also survived by her step-children: Diane Patrone (Enrico), Beverly Kohlberger (Richard), Doreen Zaccagnino (William), Marietta LaFrancois (Richard – deceased), Rose Marie Lazear (Weston), Darryl Simons (Debra) and families. Gertrude was a devout Christian and member of the Salvation Army for many years. She retired in 1977 from the Gore Mutual Insurance Company in Cambridge after more than 25 years of service. Gertie enjoyed her 39 years of retirement, spending six months of the year at her home at McCullough Lake and six months at her home in Fort Pierce, Florida. Over the past several years, she enjoyed many cruise vacations with her family. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge (519-621-1650) from 6 – 9pm. A Funeral Service will take place the following day, on Saturday November 5, 2016 at the Salvation Army Citadel, 12 Shade St, Cambridge at 11am with one hour of visitation prior to service. Interment to follow at Mount View Cemetery, Cambridge.
