July 10th, 1964 – April 4th, 2024
We are saddened to announce the passing of Gordon (Gord) Pelley, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, at his home in Sheffield, Ontario, in his 60th year. His parents predecease Gord, Wallace Pelley of Harcourt, Newfoundland, and Maureen Pelley (nee Connolly) of Cambridge, Ontario. Gord was the cherished husband of Sandra (Sandy) Pelley and the beloved father of Samantha Nichol (Justin) and Victoria Pelley. He was a beloved stepfather to both Gregory Galanti (Becky) and Olivia Derbyshire (Darcy). Gord was the proud Papa of the beautiful youngsters Berlin, Genesis, Dallas, and Wyatt. He was the loving brother to Deborah Caron (Howard), David Pelley (Janet), and Michael Pelley (Crystal). Gord was a best friend to Brett Cardinell (Karen) and John & Lynn Halleran. He is fondly remembered by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and he is a great friend to many.
Gord was the proud recipient of a heart transplant nearly 30 years ago and had a zest for life and the people around him. He could be found belting out a tune, playing his guitar, making food for the people he loved, washing his truck and joy-riding, and making everyone around him laugh with either a quick comeback or with his infectious laugh and smile. He loved the opportunity to tell a great joke and to give the best hugs. Gord was known to fondly recount the many blessings his new heart was able to provide him with, namely, watching his daughter Samantha grow up to walk down the aisle, having Victoria, and being able to experience grandchildren with his wife Sandy. If he could inspire you to do anything, it would be to worry less, laugh more, sing often, become an organ donor, and donate blood. Gord was generous, selfless, honourable, intelligent, honest, loving (so much he wore out two hearts), witty, and a man with humility and an endless supply of trivial knowledge. Gordo, you will be endlessly missed and forever loved, more than you know. “Love you man!”
A special thank you from Gord to Gord’s transplant team for an extra 30 years of life at London Health Science Centre: Dr. Peter Pflugfelder, Dr. Bill Kostuk, and male nurse Paul Meyers. A big thank you to his St. Mary’s Heart Function Clinic team: Dr. Amelia Yip, and the nursing team. Also, a big thank you to Dr. Janet MacEachern and the nursing team at the GRH – KW Cancer Centre. Gord had a large team, so know every single last one of you he is forever grateful for.
Visitation will be held at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews St., Cambridge, on Tuesday, April 9th, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Gordon’s life will be held in the chapel on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment Parklawn Cemetery. In memory of Gordon, the family would appreciate donations to the KW Cancer Centre at Grand River Hospital, the St. Mary’s Heart Function Clinic, or the London Health Science Centre University Hospital MOTS Unit.
