Harriett Speropoulos, a long time resident of Cambridge Ontario, died peacefully in her home in the presence of loving family the morning of October 7 2016. She will be remembered for her dazzling smile, her good humour and intelligence, her fashion sense (“nobody wears a hat like Harriett!”, as one of her friends liked to say) and most of all for her incredibly kind and generous spirit.
She is survived by sons Steve, Chris, Harry, and Greg and grandchildren Samantha, Natasha and William. She has gone to join beloved husband Nick, who predeceased her in December 2012.
Harriett was born November 9 1925 in Toronto, graduating from East York Collegiate at the top of her class. She worked in the Globe and Mail circulation department before taking a job as junior secretary at Massey Harris. A glowing letter of recommendation from Massey Harris allowed her to take a job with the Canadian General Tower as Mr. Chaplin's personal secretary when she moved to Cambridge after marrying Nick in 1953. She was active in the Cambridge Tennis Club and various local charities, but most of her time and energy went towards raising her 4 boys. Always smiling and willing to help, with always a kind word for anyone she met, Harriett was loved by all who knew her. She was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
The family are grateful for the fine care Harriett received from her physician and the excellent support provided by the CCAC and the Personal Support Workers they provided.
Family will receive guests at T. LITTLE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 223 Main Street, Cambridge (519 623 1290) on Friday, October 14 for visitation from 7-9pm. There will be a small family funeral the following day. It is Harriett's wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
