Mary Joan Angela Lawton (née Lynch), better known as Joan to her family and friends, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She left this world in the early morning hours of Monday, December 6th, 2021 at the age of 88 in Guelph, Ontario.
She was born to Joseph John Lynch and Margaret Lynch (née Masterson) in Berwick, Ontario April 18th, 1933, the youngest of 9 children. After graduating high school, Joan left the family farm in pursuit of her big city dreams, beginning a long career working for the Toronto Dominion Bank in Ottawa. It was here that she met the love of her life Robert Gerald Lawton, and married September 13th, 1958. Together they enjoyed 63 years of marriage and three children: Jo Ann, Stephen, and Sharon.
She is survived by her husband Robert, her children Jo Ann and Stephen (Tammy), as well as her grandchildren Jessica, Lindsey, Josie (John) and great-grandson James, Juliana (Ian), Suzie, Robert, and Natalie (Travis). She was predeceased by her daughter Sharon (Richard).
Joan was an avid member of her church community, participating in the Catholic Women’s League out of St. Gregory’s church in Cambridge, Ontario for most of her adult life. In addition to her church activities, Joan was an active member in several clubs, often participating in many card games and rounds of golf as well as being an avid gardener.
Joan will be remembered as a woman with a big laugh, kind spirit, and her signature pink lipstick.
A Memorial Mass will be held for Joan on Tuesday, December 14th, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, 10 St. Gregory’s Drive Cambridge, Ontario. Those unable to attend are invited to join in a live broadcast of the Mass by visiting www.couttsfuneralhome.com. Immediately following the Mass we will be an inurnment ceremony at Mount View Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome for a reception at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street Cambridge, ON following the mass.
