Kathy was a dedicated Mother, Stepmother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. First and foremost, she treasured her time and embraced every moment with us. She would use all means to stay in contact with us no matter the distance. Kathy enjoyed and looked forward to spending half the year living in Owensboro, Kentucky with her daughter Sherry and her growing family. She especially loved her role as Zsa Zsa to Benjamin, William and Anna-Kate.
Mom was a socialite and everyone’s best friend. She had a magnetic personality everyone loved. Mom made friends everywhere she went; uniquely retained these friendships throughout her life.
Kathy had a creative flare and sense of style, always being ahead of the trend. Since a young age she enjoyed crafting; especially sewing. She shared her love of food and cooking with friends and family, especially her spaghetti dinners. Anyone that knows mom would know her favorite past time was being on the phone. Her phone calls will be greatly missed by many.
Following in the footsteps of her mother Eileen, she too was an exceptional woman who exhibited unbelievable strength. Her time here will be greatly missed beyond measure, but her spirt will live on. Through knowledge she imparted the many fond memories we shared. Kathy will be missed by her daughter Sherry (Jerry) Thorpe, Grandchildren Katie-Sue (Chris) Meyer, Randy (Aeriel) Thorpe and Great Grandchildren Benjamin, William and Anna-Kate Meyer who all reside in Owensboro, Kentucky. Step- Daughter Jennifer Ball from Cambridge, Ontario.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Eileen Wellsman; sister Mary-Ann Mitchell. She is survived by sister Janet (Harvey) Thompson and brother Mark (Paula) Wellsman.
A large majority of Kathy’s career was working for the City of Cambridge in various capacities at City Hall and Cambridge Fire. She spent the last twenty-two years working for both Kitchener and Cambridge Fire Department, she concluded her career as Chief of Communications.
Cremation has taken place, final resting place will be in Owensboro, Kentucky. Mom has requested no formal funeral or celebration of life, but rather asks everyone to individually commemorate in one of mom’s time-honored traditions: one last spaghetti dinner.
As expressions of sympathy, donations made in Kathy’s memory to Innisfree House would be greatly appreciated.
