Margaret’s earthly journey came to an end peacefully on Wednesday July 19, 2017. She leaves bereft her daughters Suzanne (Paul) and Frances (Joe). She was "Gita" to her grandchildren; Chris (Anna), Nathaniel (Erin), Alistair (Meng-Hsin), Paula (Paul) and Joel (Angela) and her 6 great-grandchildren; Matthew, Kieran, Declan, Meara, Keenan and Billie. Also left to mourn is her dear sister Angela and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and England. Her adventurous life began in Plymouth, England where she was one of four children born to Marjorie and Edwin Vaughan. After the war, she married her childhood sweetheart Francis William Richard Seward (Dick) and moved with him to Malta where Dick (who by then was a flight officer with the RAF) was posted as Malta’s Medical Officer of Health. When he was decommissioned, they chose Canada to be their home living first in Canada’s northwest before finally settling in Hespeler where Dick started his thriving medical practice. In the late '60s the two continued their adventures by taking up farming in North Dumfries where they raised cattle, horses and chickens. When her husband died in 1970, Margaret continued to operate the farm at a profit, one of the few woman farmers in the province. She also was proud of her work as Secretary-Treasurer at the South Waterloo Agricultural Society .A consummate thrower of parties, the old stone farmhouse was rarely quiet with neighbours and old friends always welcome. In 1986, after marrying Robert John Kerr (2010), she split her time between their apartment in Toronto and their beloved cottage on Muskoka’s Lake of Bays where she again proved to be the consummate hostess for their many guests over the years while still managing to take time to volunteer at Toronto General Hospital as a book keeper for the gift shop, recording audio books for various publishers as well as continuing her adventures by travelling to exotic places throughout the world. While her last years proved to be difficult with failing health, she remained a gracious lady with a beautiful smile, impish sense of humour and a strong spirit that did not fail her to the end. The family wishes to thank Leona Pacheco for her kind and loving care. At Margaret's request, there will be no service. Friends are invited to take part in her final party, Sunday July 30th 5- 8 pm at Coutts Funeral home, 96 St. Andrew’s Street Cambridge (519-621-1650). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favourite charity.
