Olive Joyce Kirk, age 89, of Cambridge, ON, passed away on December 29, 2015. Visitation is from 12 pm to 1 pm, Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, prior to the funeral service at 1 pm at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge, ON. A reception will follow at Coutts and a private burial will follow the funeral at Mountview Cemetery.
Olive was born in Northampton, England on October 4, 1926. She was married for 51 years to Emerson.
Olive’s fulltime job was caring for her 2 children, Gail and Tony. She served her country during WWII, as a girl scout by assisting in the billeting of children being evacuated from London due to the bombing. Olive emigrated from England as a war bride and was employed as a seamstress at Irene’s Lingerie in Owen Sound. She put those skills to good use as a homemaker, particularly at Halloween, when her children could count on “one of a kind” costumes. Olive enjoyed reading and could be found every Saturday at the Galt Library, “stocking up on her reading material for the week”. Olive, (alias Mom and Gramma) was a true Brit, known for her dry wit and kind-heartedness. She exemplified "stay calm and carry on", long before the phrase became popular.
Olive is survived by her daughter, Gail; her son, Tony and his wife Debbie (nee Davidson), and her four granddaughters and their significant others; Lindsay (Brydon), Melissa (Russell), Alysha (Alex) and Alexandria (Jordan).
Olive is preceded in death by her husband, Emerson, her brother and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer and Canadian Cancer Societies. Olive’s family would like to thank Dr. Lawrie, Dr. Gallagher, the third floor doctors and nursing staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital and Fairview Mennonite Nursing home.
May angels always guide your path. We will miss you every day.
