August 18th 1923 – August 14th 2016
It is with great sadness that the family of Paul Neufeld announce his passing on Sunday, August 14, 2016 just shy of his 93rd birthday. Paul has gone to join his wife Erma (Pagnutti) who passed away January, 2010. Paul is survived by his four children, Mary Shum of Mississauga, Ruth Brydges (Graham) of Waterloo, Peter Neufeld (Emily) of Texas and John Neufeld (Mary) of Cambridge. Loving Opa to Steven, Ryan, Sarah, Allison, Lauren, Kimberly and Amanda.
Paul was born in Oppeln, Germany, the youngest of 6 siblings. In 1940 he was enrolled at the Mittweida Engineering College and studied mechanical engineering, but before finishing his degree was drafted to the German Air Force in April, 1942. Paul was a survivor of World War II and was a POW in France for 3 years. On July 10, 1951, at the age of 27 he immigrated to Canada and settled in Galt. He met a beautiful woman, Erma that worked in the town Pharmacy and took her dancing, biking and skating. They were married in May, 1953 and continued to enjoy dances at the German Club, tennis at Soper Park and adult skating. Summers were family swim with Dad at Kinsmen pool and camping in Wasaga Beach. Paul worked at Canada Machinery Corp. (CMC) for 30 years and worked himself up to plant manager. Before retiring, his last 10 years were with Ecolaire in Kitchener as a Mechanical Advisor. Dad and Mom travelled, enjoying Florida and several trips to meet with family in Germany and Italy. Always reading, Dad covered everything from Alexandre Dumas to Physics and the black hole. Being self-taught, Dad was very handy and could tackle anything from electrical to plumbing, everything tidy and very organized. After turbulent times in Germany as a youth, Dad was grateful for his life in Canada. We will miss you so very much Dad.
