Beloved husband of Lorene (née Heisler) for 60 wonderful years. Loving father of Rick (Maria), Lance (Carol), Cheryl (Rob) Morandin and Lisa (Tony) Cabral. Cherished Grandpa of Vanessa (Jorden), Ben (Isabella), Heather (Alex), Katie, Dan, Sarah (Taylor), Colin (Abrianna) and Erin. Dear brother of Marlene Wildeman (Ron) and Karen Ratcliff. He is predeceased by his parents Peter and Emma (née Spring) and by his brother-in-law Adrian Ratcliff. Dick will be lovingly remembered by his extended family and friends.
Born with a keen mind and a strong drive for learning, Dick earned his Doctor of Pharmacology degree from Western University in London, Ontario. His career allowed him to travel widely, something he continued to enjoy in retirement with Lorene.
Faith played an important role in Dick’s life. He was a dedicated member of his parish community and gave his time generously, especially through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also a proud member of the Probus Club in Waterdown.
Dick was many things over the years including a devoted Blue Jays fan, a longtime softball umpire and a passionate researcher of his own family history. His work on his genealogy led him to write a detailed book documenting his heritage, which will be treasured for generations.
For the last four years, Dick resided at Hilltop Manor. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff for the care and support they provided to Dick and to the family.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, November 24 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at T. Little Funeral Home, 223 Main Street, Cambridge. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Parish, 53 Wellington Street, Cambridge. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, 79 Freelton Road, Freelton. Following the burial, friends and family are invited to gather for a reception at the Westover Community Centre, 1353 Concession Road 6 W., Millgrove.
As an expression of sympathy, donations made in Dick’s memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Society through St. Patrick’s Parish would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
