Ruth Winnifred Schaefer

Passed peacefully, with family by her side, at Parkwood Mennonite Home on Sunday, May 28th, 2017, in her 91st year.

Beloved Mom of Paul Schaefer (Sandy), Susan Schaefer (David), Linda Reinhart (Keith). Proud Grandma to Natalie (Brent), Brock (Shannon), Maggie and Blake (Dawn).

Predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Reg (2003), granddaughter Lyndsay (1988) and sister Mary (2016)

Born December 29, 1926 in Toronto, to parents Winifred and Herbert, and survived by her much loved sisters Bessie Benson(Vernon) and June Archer (Bolton)

While cheering on her favourite Toronto Blue Jays, Ruth would knit mittens to donate to the mitten tree each Christmas at church, often hand-crafting over 100 pairs. She was a voracious reader, and she loved watching birds, caring for her garden, her family and her home.

Ruth faced many challenges in the last few years of her life. Through it all, you would never hear one word of complaint from her, a testament to her strength.

The final 16 months of her life were spent at Parkwood Mennonite Home, where she received compassionate care, second to none. The entire staff treated Ruth like family, and our family will always be forever grateful for their exceptional care and kindness.

A very special thank you to Ruth's friend Linda, who treated our Mom like she was her own, proving there are angels here on earth.

At Ruth’s request, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of her life will take place at Trillium United Church, 450 King Street East, Cambridge on Saturday, June 10th at 1 p.m.

As expressions of sympathy, donations in Ruth’s memory to Parkwood Mennonite Home or Kids Ability would by greatly appreciated by the family.
