Sis, it’s been 8 years since you’ve been gone and I am still missing you.  I returned from vacation and got your voicemail wishing me a happy birthday, knowing you had already passed. It was so nice to hear your  sweet voice. But now you are in your eternal home resting comfortably in the arms of Jesus surrounded by Mother, Daddy and all the other family members and friends. You are gone but not forgotten. You left so many memories for us to treasure.

This tribute was written by Louis Forde (Barbados) and read by Mike Forde at Sheila's funeral service on Sep. 22nd.

The passing of my beloved cousin Sheila has left an aching void in the link of our family chain. Her affable nature, that ready smile of hers, her wit and humour, but above all her abiding faith in the Almighty, are only some of the characteristics which linger long in my memory. Attributes such as these have made her a pillar in the Forde and Wharton family and have enabled her to leave a legacy which the youth of today will do well to emulate. As I share the pain of bereavement with my sorrowing relatives in Canada, I will offer some measure of comfort from the following words found in the Book of Psalms "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." I also derive further consolation from The Book of Wisdom, Chap.3, which reads "The souls of the righteous are in the hands of God and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish, they appear to be dead, but are at peace".

My dearest sister, once again I missed your birthday as I always did when you were here with us. I think of you often as you are always in my thoughts. Rick and I promise to stay close to each other as he keeps me close to you. I can  never repay the love and kindness you have shown to Dria and me and will treasure those memories always.

To my oldest sister Sheila, who passed away Sep. 10th, 2012, just a few months before her 80th birthday.

During our early childhood days we were a very closely knit family. We had many things in common, and we shared many splendid moments together, especially as sat around the kitchen table reading stories, memorizing bible verses and poems, and even quizzing each other.

Your early childhood days and upbringing manifested itself in later years when you were recognized as the matriarch of the family.

Your passing has left a deep void in the hearts and mind of the family, especially at this time when we would have been celebrating your 80th birthday and the Christmas festivities together.

Though death has separated us, your love and memories still live on. May you rest in peace!
