It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Paul Nawrot, who departed this life after 94 incredible years. He passed away on Tuesday, August 12th 2025, surrounded by the love of his children.
Walter is now reunited with the love of his life, Ella Hedwig Nawrot (nee Richter). He leaves behind five devoted children, who will miss him dearly: Patricia Renaud, Shirley Findeis (Peter), Michael Nawrot (Nicki), Susan Nawrot, and Angela Enns (Russell). He was a treasured Opa to Steven, Katie, Cassandra, and Gabrielle.
Walter was also predeceased by his sister, Vera Kretschmann, and his son-in-law Philip Renaud (2020).
Born in Germany, Walter came to Canada in 1956, seeking a fresh start and a new beginning. Once here, he began a career at Canadian General Tower, lasting more than 35 years. His new chapter, however, truly began in March of 1958 when he met 19-year-old Ella at a German dance. Just nine months later on December 27, 1958, the two were married – and so began a 66 year love story marked by deep companionship and unwavering devotion.
After raising their five children and watching them grow into lives of their own, Walter and Ella embraced a joyful second chapter, side-by-side as always. Every March they would make their annual journey down to Florida and reconnect with the community that had become their second home. Together, they embraced the pleasures of retirement: dancing, singing, playing golf, and traveling.
Walter found joy in everyday pleasures – waltzing on Saturday nights at the German Club, cheering on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, or watching an action-packed movie. He was known for his generosity, kindness, and infectious sense of humor. He had a resilient spirit and enduring strength that carried him through life’s ups and downs. He will be remembered always and dearly missed by those who were lucky enough to love him.
Walter’s family warmly invites all who knew and loved him to join them in sharing memories, laughs, and refreshments in his honor. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, August 20th 2025 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM at T. Little Funeral Home, 223 Main Street. Memory sharing will begin at 1:00 PM. Afterwards, a private burial will take place where Walter and Ella will be laid to rest together.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Walter’s memory to the Canadian Red Cross Society.
