It is with the greatest sorrow that we bid farewell to our beloved Witold, as the dear Lord has come knocking at his door. He died in peace while on the trip of a lifetime travelling through Australia. Witold was a man who loved life, and knew how to live each moment to the fullest: with joy, gratitude, compassion, and most of all, with love. More than anything, he adored his loving wife, Urszula. While he was the heart of their family, she was his rock. There was no pleasure greater for him than putting a smile on her face: Witold was the true definition of the perfect husband. They met while participating in the Solidarity strikes during their university years, and married only nine months later on August 14, 1982. Together for 35 years, they cherished each other until the very end. He leaves behind three daughters, Maria, Justyna and Alexandra. They were his greatest source of pride. He was a father who exposed his daughters to all that is meaningful in life, and set an example of what it means to be human. He is their hero, the giant that they will always look up to, the one who could make all their troubles disappear with a simple smile. Witold was born in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Poland, to loving parents Jadwiga and Zenon Walkowski. He grew up with his brother, Stanisław, and theirs was a bond that neither time, nor distance could break. He was a patriot who loved his Poland heritage. As a student at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, where he completed his Masters in Engineering, Witold actively participated in the Solidarity Movement. During his life in Canada, he worked to build a community for Polish immigrants. Witold co-founded the White and Red Sailing Club, and was a dedicated member of both the Polish Club, and Polish Catholic Mission in Cambridge, Ontario. He made countless other contributions to the community. There was always room in his heart for acceptance, creating a sense of family for those who needed it most. Witold was a sailor, and he was a dreamer. A dreamer who knew how to make dreams come true. No matter how crazy the idea, he would somehow make it possible. With only the clothes on his back, he took his family and moved across the world, immigrating to Canada in 1989. He came to build a future in a nation of democracy and freedom, which he valued so dearly. He came to build a future for his children, so that they may never know oppression. In Canada he established his own business, Applied Automation Canada Inc., where he dedicated his mind to creating. A true genius, knowledgeable in every aspect of life. He loved the simple things in life: the waves of the ocean, the wind in his hair, singing songs by the campfire, long road trips to anywhere, iron-distance triathlons, and most of all, being with his family. Witold will be loved and remembered until every last soul he touched has passed to meet him on the other side.
