He was born June 10, 1947, in Waynesboro, son of the late Stuart and Lucille (Fox) Altland.
He graduated from Cumberland Valley High School. Prior to retirement he was employed by The Dickinson School of Law of The Pennsylvania State University. He was a member of Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church (McBIC) where he served faithfully with the worship team ministry.
There was never a doubt that Lance's true love was music. He played in rock bands in high school and then professionally for many years afterwards. He opened LA Audio providing sound and stage lighting services for live music events beginning in the late 80's. Lance had a servant's heart and a passion to pass on the knowledge and skills he had gained especially to the next generation. Lance also had a passion for boating. He loved exploring different bodies of water and once he and his wife found the Chesapeake Bay they spent as much time there as possible. St. Bernards also stole his heart. Lance was blessed by three in his lifetime: Juble, Samantha and Hercules. In his many circles of friends Lance was affectionately known as MacGyver; as he had a way to fix anything and everything with whatever was available.
He is survived by his wife Suanne J. Wilson, two sons, Jeffrey Johnson and Galen Shaner (Cathy), a sister, Carol Trevathan (Andre), and a niece and nephew.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church, 1050 S. York St., Mechanicsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: At the Cross Recovery, 1050 S. York St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
