Margaret Dale Rutherford Miner passed away peacefully and went to be with the lord Friday afternoon, August 9th, 2024. She was 99 years old. Affectionately known as "Marge," she was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland on June 27th, 1925. Marge resided in her hometown of Kilmarnock through many years of war until the age of 21 when she moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her parents.
Marge has many proud moments through her life. Her proudest achievements were working at the University of Pittsburgh Virus Research Laboratory during the development of the Polio Vaccine serving as Dr. Jonas Salk's secretary. Marge was an avid animal lover and especially adored her dogs Jordie and Taffy.
Marge met and then married James (Jim) Miner in 1961 as they relocated to Wormleysburg, Pennsylvania. During their career endeavors they established a very successful Insurance Agency. During her career years Marge was also an active member of the Market Square Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, PA. During their 35 years of marriage Marge and Jim lived a very active and fulfilling and wonderful life together traveling the world, skiing, golfing, and playing tennis.
After the passing of her beloved husband, Marge sold the Insurance business and retired. She moved into the Atlantic Shores community in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2003 where she could spend the rest of her time close to family.
In retirement, she found joy as a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach. Every morning rain or shine, Marge would walk the entire length of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront boardwalk. She loved hosting parties and traveling the world. However, her family will tell you that her greatest adventures were the countless trips she made across the country to attend her grandchildren's, nieces', nephews', and great-nieces' and nephews' sporting events, plays, recitals, graduations, and weddings. She was always there for them.
Marge is survived by her daughter Robyn Chambers, granddaughter Crystal Chambers, grandson Larry Chambers and his wife Emily, and her great-grandsons Theodore, Lawrence, and Grantham. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
A graveside ceremony will be held Friday, August 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill, PA. Flowers may be sent to Neill Funeral Home in Camp Hill, PA.
