Nicholas "Nick" V. Papoutsis, 82, joined the Lord on Friday, April 7, 2017 after passing peacefully in his Camp Hill home. He leaves his devoted wife of 52 years, Irene N. Papoutsis; his son, Basil Papoutsis and his wife, Elena; his son, John Papoutsis and his wife, Maria; his daughter, Demetra Pandelaras and her husband, Chris. He also leaves six grandchildren: Niko, Dean, Nicholas, Arthur, George, and Nikolas.
Our beloved father was born in the village of Neohori, Nafpaktias, Greece. In 1951, he immigrated to the United States with his parents and siblings. After receiving his high school diploma and serving in the United States military, he became immersed in the American dream, with the hope of building a strong foundation based on his work ethic and love of family. In 1956, he joined his Uncle George and his brother, George Papoutsis, in co-owning the Famous Texas Lunch in Waynesboro, PA. In 1965, he returned to Greece to marry his wife, Irene. Again, they returned to the United States, this time on a journey to form the beginnings of our family. He worked tirelessly for his family and his community. In 1972, he took ownership of the John Wallace Kitchen restaurant, also located in Waynesboro. He ran his business while remaining a dedicated husband, father, and valued member of the community. He was asked to serve and did serve for nine consecutive years on the Waynesboro Hospital board of directors. He was also an active member of the Neohoriton Syllogos and the Order of Ahepa. In 1997, he retired in Camp Hill to live closer to his children, grandchildren, and church.
Our beloved husband, father, and Pappou will always be remembered as the patriarch of our family. He was a humble man who was grateful to God for his loving, close-knit family. We will honor and cherish his kind words, his bright smile, his easy-going nature, and wisdom on the pearls of life. He attended morning coffee with his closest friends and remained an active man who enjoyed cooking, gardening, hunting, and spending time with those he loved most.
A viewing will be held from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1000 Yverdon Drive, Camp Hill, with Father Michael Varvarelis as Celebrant. Funeral services will immediately follow. After the internment at the East Harrisburg Cemetery, a traditional Makaria will be served at the Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in honor of Nick Papoutsis to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
