She was born November 27th, 1951 to Emory and Anne McElroy, the fourth of five children in Salamanca, New York. She spent much of her early life in and around Buffalo, where she attended and graduated from a number of educational institutions that she didn’t seem to enjoy much based on her stories, but did provide the basis for a career in Medical Transcription. It was in pursuit of this now extinct profession that she met her first and final husband, Gaspere Geraci, and had three sons; Leonardo, Dominic, and Anthony.
Rita eventually settled in the Mechanicsburg area, meeting her best friend Leeanor and unwittingly dooming her to decades of stress and companionship. Her career was never anything more than a means of supporting her family. She was always the loudest voice at any soccer game, the first to applaud at any show, and the warmest hug during hard times. Anyone who knew Rita knew that she lived for her children and loved her grandchildren; Dominic, Josephine, Giovanni, and Leonardo. Perhaps more than her actual children.
She is preceded in death by her siblings Bob and Judy, and her son Dominic. Hopefully Heaven can handle the language to come in that reunion pinochle game.
A funeral mass will be held at Good Shepherd Church in Camp Hill, PA on February 14th at 11am, with a viewing beginning at 10am. There will be a luncheon at the church afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The Dominic M. Geraci Memorial scholarship at www.thsrocks.us/give-now.
