Robert "Nagel" J. Hirsch

Robert J. “Nagel” Hirsch, 83, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Thursday May 25, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving wife, children, grandchildren and family. He was born September 22, 1933 in Wiconisco Township, the son of the late Robert and Catherine (Walde) Hirsch. He was a veteran of the US Army and US Navy serving in the Korean War. Prior to retirement, he was Supply Warehouseman with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Known to many as Nagel, his heart was in his family, he loved to whistle, enjoyed outdoor activities; fishing, gardening, workshop making birdhouses and his love for his beloved dogs leaving behind Cal.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Barbara A. Stine, Mary Ann Toth and brother in laws, Rolf Kettenman and Hans-Jürgen Herzhauser.

Robert is survived by his wife, Ingrid B. Hirsch, of 57 years who married on May 25, 1960 in Wiesbaden Germany. He is survived by his children, Everett D. Hirsch of Las Vegas NV, Patricia M. Hirsch of Marina CA, Robert R. Hirsch of Carlisle PA and David A. Hirsch and wife Linda of Mechanicsburg; 18 grandchildren, Nicole D. Paoletti, Erica L. (White) Sahd and her husband Joseph, Eliza A. White, Daniel R. Hirsch, Matthew D. Hirsch and wife Jacqueline, Nathaniel R. Hirsch, Joseph N. Thomas, Leah M. Hirsch, Courtney R. Hirsch, Mandy C. Richardson and husband Thomas, Andrea M. Stewart and husband Richard Jason R. Gelb, Jesse A. Gelb and wife Jessy; 5 great-grandchildren, Angelina R. Paoletti, Bradshaw C. Knox, Easton Sahd, Caiden J. Hirsch and Kiera M. Richardson; and sisters, Catherine E. and her husband John of Mechanicsburg, 2 sister in laws, Susanna E. Tekut of Abilene TX and Christa-Petra Tylus and husband Mark of Flushing MI.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg, with viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to mass. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
