Samira Elizabeth Zarreii, beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022. She was 26. Born on August 18th, 1995 to Michael and Marilyn Zarreii in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Samira was the youngest of three sisters.
From her very first words (singing "Tomorrow" from the Annie soundtrack), Samira's sweet voice uplifted anyone lucky enough to hear it. To say she was "outspoken" is an understatement; she was opinionated, brave, and never backed down from a challenge. She is remembered for her unique and rare blend of charisma and sensitivity. She was fierce and feisty yet somehow also gentle and unwaveringly kind.
Samira was dedicated to her passions and worked hard to achieve her goals. She was an accomplished flutist and served as the drum major at Cumberland Valley High School as well as Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. She earned her BS in Business Administration and began working in banking, quickly being promoted to branch manager first at PNC and then Assistant VP Branch Manager at M&T Bank. She wore her red "power jacket" like a boss and her dedication, determination, and work ethic were unmatched.
Samira was an avid reader and loved all things Harry Potter, The Office, and music. She exemplified Gryffindor traits - fiercely loyal, selfless, and fearless. Samira was always known as a “helper”, constantly troubleshooting and problem solving (and serving as her parents' personal tech support). She prioritized spending quality time with her family, friends, and pets. She was tremendously funny and had an infectious laugh with a wide and bright smile. She was warm, loving, and made everyone feel special. She was a shining light and a brilliant star.
Samira enriched our lives in every possible way, and we will mourn her passing with endless gratitude for the love she gave. She is survived by her parents, Michael and Marilyn of Mechanicsburg, sisters Parisa (Marco) and Soraya (Carlton) of Gainesville, Florida, and her beloved dog, Coco. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom love her deeply forever.
A viewing is tentatively scheduled for Sunday May 8, 2022 at 12 pm at Neill Funeral Home in Camp Hill, PA with a funeral service beginning at 2 pm. All are encouraged to bring photos or other physical reminders of Samira's impact on the world. There will be an opportunity to share stories and memories during the service as well.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Samira's name to the Cumberland Valley Marching Band would be appreciated. We are planning to set up a scholarship in her memory for drum majors to attend summer drum camp.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neillcamphill.com for the Zarreii family.
