I am very sorry to hear about the passing of my old friend Hugh.  I first met him at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver in 1967.  We were both residents in the Men's Hall on the campus, and we became good friends. He was a very enthusiastic student of mine in the Geography Tutorials that I taught at the University. He also subsequently became a travel companion on a number of trips, and we at one time shared a house with other SFU people in Burnaby. Hugh was very helpful to me in my early days in Canada, introducing me to friends and inviting me to stay with his family in The Okanagan valley.  He invited me to family Christmas parties in Vancouverin the late 1960's. We retained our friendship for over 50 years, meeting up occasionally when I was back over in Canada or when Hugh came to the U.K., and we regularly corresponded by letter or email until last year. Goodbye old friend.
