We are very sad to share that Joyce passed away on February 16, 2022, in Campbell River hospital surrounded by loving family members. Joyce was a very kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. Joyce was predeceased by parents Roy and Edna Forester, sister June Fauchon, and son Mike. She is survived by husband, Bill; son, James; grandsons, Cameron and Colby; brother Gordon Forester; and sisters, Jo-Anne Morrison, Janice Forester and Jean Fair and their families.
Joyce was born in Vancouver, B.C. on May 31, 1950. She moved to Campbell River with her family in 1956 and grew up on Discovery Road. Many happy hours were spent exploring and swimming in the nearby ocean, playing "kick the can" and baseball and also ice skating at Hudson's farm.
Joyce was 13 years old when she and Bill met. They were together for 59 years and married for 54 happy years. They had two sons, James and Mike. Joyce was totally devoted to Bill and the boys. She kept the house so clean that you could eat off the floor. The home canning Joyce would do was neatly stacked in the laundry room labelled with her amazingly neat handwriting. A display fit for a magazine!
Joyce was a a real mama bear and protected their boys to no end. A number of nieces and nephews remember going to Joyce when they had disagreements at home and Joyce would always stick up for them too.
Joyce was a great fan of the sporting activities of Mike and James when they were young and later the ball games of grandsons, Colby and Cameron. Joyce was always surrounded by music. For many years she enjoyed the rocking music provided by Bill and bandmates. Also, she was amazed by Mike on classical guitar when he was young, as we all were. Most recently she loved to sit in on the practices and listen to the awesome rock and roll tunes played by Bill. Colby and Cameron. Family was most important to Joyce, she loved them dearly and spent years caring for them for as long as she was able.
Joyce wasn't afraid to experience new employment opportunities. Among other jobs, she was a tree planter, waste disposal truck driver, nursery manager, and later owner of her own beautiful nursery. Joyce was also owner of an amazing gift and plant shop called Tropically Hip.
Joyce loved camping with her family and friends. Many happy hours were spent laughing and roasting wieners around campfires in such places as Morton Lake, Miracle Beach and Rathtreavor Beach. Joyce made the best potato salad to go with outdoor fun. Also, her happy cookies would put a smile on any grumpy face. Christmas was another time Joyce's large extended family would all get together for a noisy by joyful celebration.
After retirement, Joyce and Bill explored many wilderness backroads from the Mexican border to the Artic Ocean. These trips were nicknamed the "Ned and Ethel Fossil Tours" by son James.
Joyce was an exceptional human being and never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was always there if someone needed comfort. The terrain of life we travel through is sometimes rugged and cruel, but when you had a solid like Joyce as your co-pilot, who more often than not carried more than her weight, it made it magical. She had an awesome smile on her face until the end and we were all truly blessed to be part of her life.
We will all miss Joyce so very much but will keep her and her beautiful smile tucked deep in our hearts until we meet again on the beautiful shore.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Jokinen, the staff at Yucalta Lodge and Campbell River hospital for their kindness and care of Joyce. We will be forever grateful.
A private family get together will be held next summer
