She is lovingly remembered by her sister Lucille Shires (Bob), brother Larry Clarke (Joanell), her son Michael Phipps (Cara), grandson Wyatt, and Cara’s children Chase, Hunter, Ainsleigh and Coby, whom she cherished. She is also survived by her daughter Jessica Kartz and her children Mariah, Donald, and Douglas Kartz, and by her great-grandchildren Penny and Jaimie. Leslie will be deeply missed by her lifelong friend who became family, Maureen Rundle and her family, as well as her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Leslie lived in Victoria, Salmon Arm, Vernon, Salt Spring Island, Crofton, Parksville and Campbell River. She worked for regional districts for most of her career and was deeply committed to environmental stewardship and the preservation of wild spaces. A published artist and creative spirit, she volunteered generously wherever she lived, including with the Vernon Community Theatre, and animal rescue efforts on Salt Spring Island. She loved nature and especially her dogs.
A Celebration of Life will be held April 26. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society in her memory.
