Margaret was born in Huddersfield, England to Walter and Dorothy Howarth. She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Gerald and her older brother Jim. She raised 3 sons in Huddersfield, Karl, Mark and Peter and was a devoted Primary School teacher for 30 years. She also became a proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
After retiring in the UK, she and Gerald followed Mark and Karl to Canada where they settled in Campbell River. Margaret and Gerald liked adventure and travelled to many countries including China, Yemen and Jordan to experience the different histories and cultures. She took her first skiing lesson as a spritely 70-year-old.
An excellent pianist who loved playing Chopin, Margaret joined different choirs including Campbell River Singers making many new friends. She was also a member of the Chas Maria chapter of the Eastern Star where she volunteered in charitable events such as making bandages for use with hospital patients and cooking large amounts of Cornish pasties that would sell out very quickly.
She was universally liked by all people that knew her both in England and Canada who have described her as friendly, gracious, intelliegent, generous and humble.
There will be a celebration of her life for friends and family on Weds 13th September 1.30pm onwards at her house, 2-91 Dahl Road, V9W 1T4.
Happy memories and messages of sympathy may be shared at www.suttonsfuneralhome.com for the Sylvester family.
