Patricia was born May 3, 1942, in New Westminster, BC, to parents Benedict and Pearl Lindal of Burnaby. She grew up in Burnaby as an only child until she was joined by a much younger brother, David (Nathalie), who lovingly refers to her as ‘sis.’ Patty spent many hours caring for David and taking him for walks, so much so that she almost felt like his mother.
Pat married her first husband, John Iwanson, in Burnaby in September 1963. Around 1964, they moved to Langley where, after a short stay, John was posted to Dawson Creek near Loran Station. By this time the couple had two daughters, Jo-Anne and Loranne. The year 1968 saw John and Pat move their family to Campbell River where their youngest child, Katrina was born. She then married Terry Summers, and they were happy together for 50 years. She is survived by her husband Terry, her brother David Lindal (Nathalie), her daughters Jo-Anne Kennedy (Jay), Loranne Hilton (Britt), Katrina Clark (Glen), one stepson Andrew Summers (Pamela), six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Known affectionately as “Poopsie,” “Freddy,” “mother!” “Sheena,” “Amma,” or Patty, she worked for the Ministry of Forests, Ministry of Corrections, Department of Fisheries, and Saferway Driving School. She retired in August 2007. Pat was a master at crossword puzzles, enjoyed good TV, coffee dates with close friends, time with her family, and excelled as a home styled chef. Sadly, she was stricken with cancer and a serious stroke in her later years, which left her confined to a bed at home.
Her passing at home was very peaceful and loving. We’re so thankful to have shared her passionate, humorous nature, and love throughout her lifetime and in her final hours. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. No service by request.
