Bob was born on February 3, 1938 in Hull, East Yorkshire, England. At the age of 16, he immigrated on his own to Canada leaving behind his parents and four older brothers.
Dad spent his first couple of years in Campbell River, then in 1957 he took a life changing position in Dawson Creek with BC Tel. There he began a 36 year career with the telephone company, but more importantly he met the love of his life, Shirley Hay. They were married August 1960 and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this summer.
In 1970 Bob and Shirley moved to Quadra Island with their three small children: Jim, Marvin and Brenda.
Dad was very handy and resourceful. He rebuilt our home mostly on his own. He loved gardening and was particularly proud of his peach tree.
Bob was an avid fisherman and was frequently away with his boat and motorhome on fishing trips.
Dad was the telephone man on Quadra Island and Cortez for many years until he retired in 1993. Bob volunteered in different ways throughout the years, and for the last 20 years, he spent many hours in the spring working with the Federal Governments Community Volunteer Income Tax Program assisting members of the Quadra community and the Campbell River Women’s Resource Centre with the completion of their income tax returns.
Bob will be deeply missed by his wife Shirley, children Jim (Terry), Marvin (Matt), Brenda (Bruce), his grandchildren Valerie (Steve), Katrina (Kevin), Michelle and Ryan (Jen) and his great grandchildren: Austin, Madison, Cameryn, Taylor, Tyson, Chad, Hayden, Emersyn and Easton.
Bob had many good friends throughout his life, but he had a special place in his heart for the Hawkins family and Jo-Anne and Kevin Johnson.
At Dad’s request there will be no service.
