It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Roy Alan Harmison in the early evening of February 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 25, 1956, and raised in Cumberland out at Comox Lake by his parents William and Lousie Harmison, he joined brother Gerry and sister Barb, (all predeceased) and his (nickname was FLOOD common to Cumberland folks).
He followed his brother Gerry into the logging industry in November 1974 heading to the “Woss Bunkhouse” life at the tender age of 18 where he worked for CANFOR, and then WFP and sometimes Blue Thunder Contracting. Starting out as a choker man, he advanced through roles including chaser, landing bucker, hook tender, and grapple yarder operator before, achieving his dream position as a faller. Roy made Woss his permanent home in 1980 with his wife Sussie and in 1982 his hunting buddy Tyler was born. He was known for his strong work ethic and friendships he created with his co-workers in the industry.
Outside of work Roy always found great joy at the cabin on Woss Lake. Whether he was building fires, cutting firewood for friends and family, or towing the tube with the grandchildren out on the lake. Those were his treasured moments. He was an avid outdoors man and was so looking forward to more hunting adventures with the boys Tyler, Riley and Brayden. He loved having friends and family come to enjoy the cabin whenever they could.
His other favorite pass time was quad riding with his granddaughter Eliza.
When he wasn’t busy driving down island to watch BMX’ing Races or Baseball Games/ or Horseback Riding Skills development he was always puttering around in the yard and going for the odd quad ride or ATV ride with Sussie.
Roy is deeply missed by his wife Sussie, son Tyler (Nicole), daughter in law Claire, his grandchildren Riley, Brayden and Eliza as well as his sisters-in-law Annie, Ann, & Karen and brother-in-law Ben and numerous nieces and nephews, and all his close circle of friends that he considered his family as well.
A celebration of life with be held later in the summer at his beloved cabin at Woss Lake.
We thank all the staff that cared for Roy during his short stay at the Campbell River Hospital. You were awesome and it was appreciated by all of us.
