Arthur was born on March 2nd, 1938 to Arthur George Reis and Catherine Sergeant Reis in Greenwich, Connecticut, where he was raised. He graduated from Greenwich high school and entered the Army. After serving in the Army, Arthur obtained a Masters Degree in Mathematics from University of Connecticut, Magna Cum Laude. He started his career working at Univac as a computer programmer at the very beginning of computer technology. He worked for the navy for a short period to develop programs for sonar technology. Moved to Perkin Elmer where he was a department manager of the computing department. On March 1st, 1977 married Sachiko Chiba. They raised two sons, Jason and Adam, and one daughter, Miho.
Arthur moved to California where he continued working in the computer programming field at Litton in aerospace engineering. He also worked at JPL as a computer programmer for weather satellites and with Parsec as a programmer. Following this he worked as a programmer for Los Angeles County (DPSS). He created a Ride Sharing software called RideStar and continued working with the County until his retirement in 2015. He was fond of classical music, played the piano, and his hobbies centered around his passion for computer technology. He was known for his gentle demeanor and he liked to make people smile.
Arthur was preceded in death by his father Arthur George Reis and mother, Catherine Sergeant Reis. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sachiko Reis, sons Jason and Adam, daughters Miho, Susan Elizabeth Reis of Virginia, Linda Melissa Reis, of Pennsylvania, 2 grandchildren Oliver and Sara, and his sisters Barbara and Kathleen , son in law Joe, and daughter in law Megumi.
