Barry Lau passed away peacefully in 2015. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 39 years, Sheila, and his two daughters, Veronica and Priscilla. Barry was born in 1949 in Hong Kong. He moved to Canada in 1971 and met Sheila at the University of Lethbridge; they married in Calgary in 1975. After moving to California in 1981, then spending two years in Thailand, Sheila and Barry returned to Los Angeles to raise their daughters.
Barry began his engineering career in the oil and gas industry in Canada. More recently, he worked at Cedars-Sinai and the County of Los Angeles, from which he was set to retire next year. Barry was passionate about good conversation and food. He had a wealth of knowledge and strong sense of justice, but was also the "cool guy" who loved fast red cars and rock and roll; having taught himself bass guitar, he joined his friends to form "The Big Rubber Band." Barry was an incredibly hard working family man, devoted to his beloved wife, daughters and quartet of Pomeranians (Jadey, Toro, Fei Fei and Peanut). He had a big personality and loved to read, cook, explore and travel, enjoying many memorable family trips to Europe, South America and Asia. He was a loving husband, father, son(-in-law), brother(-in-law), uncle and friend who is continuing to look after us from a better place.
