Carol’s first job was with the American Medical Association. When her eldest son, Rick, was born in 1955, Carol, her son and her parents relocated to Burbank, California where she went to work for Competition Motors providing administrative support to the overseas sales department. Here she met her second husband, Derek Povah. They were married in 1960 and purchased a home in Reseda, CA where her daughter, Valerie, was born in 1962. The following year, the Povahs bought a home on Bobbyboyar Avenue in what is now West Hills. It is the home and the community in which she would live for the rest of her life. In 1964, she welcomed the birth of her second son, Derek Christopher.
When the children were in school full time, Carol returned to the workplace. Hired in 1969 as a secretary for the Missile Systems Group of Hughes Aircraft Company, she spent most of her 25-year career as Head of Systems and Procedures and retired as the Manager of Administration. She made friends and memories at Hughes that would last her life time.
Carol was also active in her community. She was dedicated to the YMCA and worked on their Board of Directors from 1986 - 1994 and served as the Chairman for the West Valley YMCA from 1987 - 1990. She served the Canoga Park West Hills Chamber of Commerce for many years and was on that Board from 1991 - 1993. Those who knew her during this time will remember she had a special place in her heart for the Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade. Carol supported the Los Angeles Police Department with years of work for the P.A.L.S. organization and was instrumental in the conversion of Fire Station 72 on Owensmouth Avenue into the Canoga Park Community Center. She was involved in this project from 1987 - 1999 and served on its Board of Directors.
Those who knew her best will remember not only Carol's kindness and compassion, wit and charm; but also her irrepressible resilience. She appreciated all the goodness in her life and gave of herself completely to the family, friends, and community she treasured. She will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her grace and unconditional love.
She is survived by her son Rick Grimm; daughter and son-in-law Valerie and Mike Linstrom, granddaughters Kandace and Melissa Linstrom; son Derek Povah, grandsons Derek and Braden Povah; Step-daughter Vicki (Andy) Martinez, granddaughter Jessica (Patsy) Romero; Step-daughter Denise (Mike) Stabile, grandson Charlie (Jenny) Ackerman, their son Martin and grandson William Stabile; her extended family and the many friends who knew and loved her.
