

Janet Fearer Eckhouse, age 79, of Oak Park, CA, passed away on October 20, 2023 with her loving daughter at her side. Born on November 17, 1943, in Frostburg, MD, Janet was the beloved daughter of Clifford Fearer and Willa Fearer Griffith, and the stepdaughter of Lloyd Griffith, all of whom preceded her in death.
Janet greatly impacted the lives of all of her family and will be very missed. She is survived by her devoted children Jonathan Eckhouse (Randi) and daughter Michelle Melago (Justin). Janet had five adoring grandchildren: Oliver Mortellaro, Scarlette Mortellaro, Annabelle Melago, Ryan Eckhouse, and Connor Eckhouse. She is also survived by a loving sister, Mary Ann Fearer Carolan (Dennis), and several fond nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers: William Hugh Fearer and David Laird Fearer.
Janet earned her Master’s Degree in Public Health from UCLA, focusing on her commitment to improving healthcare for others. She was a long-time and very dedicated Kaiser Permanente hospital administrator and ombudsman. Starting in high school, Janet was a wonderful singer. She enjoyed performing and even had a brief side-line career singing in public venues. She loved traveling, meeting people, and had a very adventurous spirit.
Outside of her career, Janet was an avid organizer for Brady: United Against Gun Violence. She strongly believed in advocating for safer communities and tirelessly worked towards this cause. She was also an appointed delegate to the California Democratic State Convention.
A celebration of Janet's life and journey “Into the Mystic” will be held at a later date. Details will be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Brady United at bradyunited.org or through their website, https://www.bradyunited.org/donate/tax
