Joseph McDaniel Ryker

Joseph served in the Army Air Force during World War II and received honorable discharge. He then graduated as a teacher from the University of Illinois. In 1953, he moved to Los Angeles County, CA and became a technical writer for Rockwell Manufacturing. Following that, he became an engineer and worked for Lockheed Corporation, an aerospace, arms and defense company, for 37 years.

In December, 1957, Joseph married Iris Marie LaGrasse, who passed away in December, 2003. They settled in Canoga Park, CA and had two daughters who survive him, Robin Sargent of West Logan, WV, and Debra Habit of West Hills, CA. In addition, he is survived by two sisters, Mazie Engwall and Beverly Bush; five grandchildren, Randy Nuckolls, Cody Cannon, Kelsie Cannon, Heidi Cannon and Tyler Cannon and two great-grandchildren, Keo Cannon and Nettie Cannon. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Allmendinger and one grandson, Kyle Habit.

Joseph enjoyed caring for the Iris Ryker Swim School family business, playing music, reading, sailing on his boat and traveling. He was a devout Christian and lived his life filled with service and love to family, friends, community and country.

Joseph McDaniel Ryker, age 98, of West Hills, California passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024.
