Martha June Hawley Straub
February 17, 1920 ~ January 11, 2020
Martha was born in Oneida, New York. She was the youngest of 9 children to Romeo Hoyt Hawley, and Lena Beatrice (Spaulding) Hawley. She went to Sherrill high school in NY, and Cortland State Teachers College, NY. Shortly thereafter she moved to California. She was working at US Electrical Motors when she met her sweetheart, Bert Straub. They married January 31, 1954 in Hollywood, California. In May 1957 they had a son, Ray, and in December 1959 they had a daughter, Lorna. They lived in Canoga Park until 1967 when they moved to Woodland Hills. Martha moved to Newbury Park, CA in May, 2015, where she lived until her “homegoing”.
Bert and Martha owned and operated a successful Schwinn bicycle shop, Canoga Cycle Center, from 1954 to 1994. They were both very active in their church, Canoga Park Presbyterian Church. In addition, they were active in the kid’s school activities, scouting, and throughout the community (library, historical society, Lyons, Kiwanis, Rotary Club, etc.)
Martha had a gift of making people feel welcomed. She was kind, smart, engaging, but especially a woman of God. She loved the Lord, and is celebrating with Him in Heaven.
We imagine He has prepared her mansion in Purple!
A memorial service for Martha will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at 11 a.m. Canoga Park Presbyterian Church, 22103 Vanowen St., Canoga Park, CA 91303 (Luncheon to follow).
