Our beloved mother, Mary Ann Fischer, a 48 year resident of Ventura, passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord on June 5, 2014. There she will join her husband Harrison Fischer, her brother Bill Donovan, her son Michael Wallick and her grandson Jeracho Wallick and many family members and friends who preceded her.
Mary Ann was born in Alliance, Nebraska on April 9, 1921 to Dewey and Mary Donovan. She enjoyed a wonderful life growing up in Lincoln, Nebraska, including her attendance at the University of Nebraska. She came to California in 1941 to support the war effort and served in the administrative staff at Lockheed Aircraft. In 1942 she married Charles “Joe” Wallick and relocated with him to Montana while he served in the Army Air Corp. This union produced three children; Kathleen, Sandra and Michael. Following the war they returned to California and then moved to Ventura.
In 1968, Mary Ann married Harrison Fischer, a father of four, and this 42 year marriage produced a life full of family events, volunteer activities, football games and wonderful travel. She was an active member of the Assistance League of Ventura, former president of the 12 O’Clockers, the Ventura Dance Club and various bridge groups.
She is survived by their children: Kathleen (John) Becker, Sandra (Terry) Supple, David (Shirley) Fischer, Patricia (Ben) Anixter, Gena Fischer, and Clay (Susan) Fischer. In addition, she had eleven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon (John) Shamlian and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her warm, loving spirit and delight in life will be truly missed by those that knew her. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mel Church in Woodland Hills on Monday, June 16 at 11:00 A.M., followed by a reception in the parish activity center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to your favorite charity be made in her name.
A special thank you from the family goes to the wonderful, attentive staff at Sunrise Senior Living in Woodland Hills for making mom comfortable and happy.
