He was born to parents Alice Mary McCarty and Joseph Oedy, on December 10, 1929 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Dick graduated early from high school and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Indiana University in 1951, Master of Science at Iowa State College in 1956 and Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering at USC in 1966.
He was married to Nancy Ann Perry in 1955. Dick is survived by his kids Tom, Carol, Bob and Mary and grandkids Dylan, Bella and Dean. Dick worked as an Engineer at Douglas and later Hughes Aircraft retiring as a Senior Scientist after 27 years. He was most proud of his work on the Surveyor which landed on the moon.
Dick and Nancy visited several churches in the valley until they found their favorite St Mel Catholic Church in Woodland Hills. Being a true engineer Dick used a compass protractor to draw a 1-mile radius on a map around the church tasking the real-estate professional with finding a home within the circle.
Dick was a mild-mannered gentleman, with a wonderful disposition, he prayed often, gave great advice, enjoyed deer hunting and trailer camping.
The memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at 10a.m. at St. Mel Church with burial to follow.
