Evelyn Plotkin passed peacefully on April 10, 2026, three weeks shy of her 102nd birthday.
She was the daughter of the late Ida (Isaacman) and Isadore Levine. The youngest of three siblings, she lived in Worcester for 60 years before moving to Hyannis and later Heatherwood in Yarmouth Port. She graduated from Classical High School in 1942 and one year later, she married the love of her life, Sidney Plotkin three days prior to his departure on a ship to India and China where he was stationed for two years during WWII. While he was away, Evelyn would write him every day and through these correspondences, they would truly get to know each other and their love only grew. Upon his return to the States, they moved into an apartment on the third floor of 4 Woodford Street and a few years later to Sherwood Road on the Westside of Worcester where their family life really took shape.
Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 74 years Sidney and leaves a daughter Chaya Devorah (Karen) Bergstein, wife of Rabbi Chaim Moshe Bergstein of Farmington Hills, Michigan; a son Bruce and his wife Elisabeth Gold of Weston, CT; as well as nine grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her sister Anne Portnoy and her brother John Ladd.
Evelyn was always active in organizations, especially at Temple Emanuel in Worcester where she was president of the Sisterhood as well as the Jewish Home Auxiliary and the Veterans’ Women’s Auxiliary. Upon moving to the Cape, they became equally involved in the Cape Cod Synagogue and were always the first ones to welcome in new congregants some of whom became life-long friends. Family and friends were everything to the two of them.
Funeral service will be at 12 pm on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter Street, Hyannis, MA. With interment to follow at Mosswood Cemetery, 280 Putnam Avenue, Cotuit, MA.
