

BERKOVICH, Felix Maximovich of Canton, entered into rest November 25, 2016. He was 84. Beloved husband of the late Nora (Rabinovich) Berkovich. Devoted father of Anna (Berkovich) Krasko and her husband Daniel. Cherished grandfather of Rachel Krasko.Felix was born in Moscow, USSR (now Russia), son of the late Sophia (Finkelman) and Maxim Berkovich. He received an M.S. in 1955 from the Moscow Machine Tool Institute and his Ph.D in 1969 from the Moscow Automobile and Highway Institute. He married his late wife, Nora Rabinovich, a physician, in 1962 and had one daughter, Anna. He immigrated to the United States in 1982, where he become a naturalized U.S. Citizen. He was employed as a mechanical engineer at High Pressure Equipment Co. in Walpole from 1983 to 2001.In addition to reading and playing chess, he was an avid stamp collector, having collected postage stamps since his childhood. For over twenty years, he collected stamps and related material on the topics of chess and Judaica. After immigrating to the US, he became a member of several philatelic organizations and won several awards. He eventually wrote a book, Jewish Chess Masters on Stamps, which combined his three favorite topics – philately, chess and Judaica. He was a member of the U.S. Chess Federation, Chess Journalists of America, American Philatelic Society, American Topical Association and Society of Israel Philatelists. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 27th at 10 AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapels, 475 Washington Street, CANTON, followed by interment at Sharon Memorial Park.
