Paul was born in Boston to Rose (Margil) and Louis Berger. He grew up and attended Memorial High School in Roxbury. Just prior to graduating high school at age 17, Paul enlisted in the Navy, serving in the South Pacific on a PT boat during World War II. After returning home Paul was able to finish High School, and with the help of the GI Bill, get an Engineering Degree from MIT and buy his first house.
Paul had a productive career as a Civil Engineer, working for Fay, Spofford and Thorndike, helping design highways and underground water systems. In 1948, Paul and Dorine married, started a family and in 1955, moved into the house in Sharon and began to establish deep roots in the local community.
In addition to working full time and raising three children he offered his time serving on various town planning committees where his professional expertise was greatly valued. He was one of the founding members to set up a new reform synagogue which became Temple Sinai. Paul was very generous in offering to speak publicly to school children and other groups about his military experiences overseas.
His most recent residence was at Brightview in Canton, where he participated in many of the daily activities and was well-loved and popular with the residents and staff. Throughout his life, he loved meeting new challenges and meeting new people. Paul will be remembered as a people person and a supportive father, father-in-law, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his 3 children, Marc and his wife Pat, Neal, and Leslie and her husband Rob, grandchildren Dana, Lora, Daniel and Jonathan, and great-grandchildren Ryder and Sierra. Paul is preceded in death by his late wife, Dorine and his siblings, Samuel, Bernard, Frances, Morris, Helen, Ethel and Jack.
