Sandra Esther (Waltuck) Schiff, age 56, of Austin, TX, passed away peacefully on February 5th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sandy was born on September 22, 1967 to Morey Waltuck and Susan Waltuck in Buffalo, NY.
After Sandy graduated from Sharon High School in 1985, she went on to Cornell University where she received a Bachelor’s in Architecture, and later followed that up with a Masters in Historic Preservation from Columbia University.
In every aspect of her life, Sandy brought her artistic talents to the table. She went on to become, in her own words, “artist; facilitator; cultural strategist; bonus mom; stationer; always rooting for preservation of material culture and stewardship of the built environment”. Sandy loved to create, cook, quilt and most importantly, take care of everyone around her.
Sandy also referred to herself as a “Deliberate Wanderer”, having lived in Buffalo, NY; Sturbridge, Worcester and Sharon, MA; San Francisco, CA; Brooklyn and Manhattan, NY and finally, Austin, TX. While studying at Cornell, she spent a very memorable year in Italy. At each stop along the way, Sandy developed lifelong friendships, added more friends and introduced old friends to new ones resulting in an ever-widening web of interconnection, love, support and comradery. This often resulted in a room chock full of stories and laughter whenever they got together.
Sandy was predeceased by her mother Susan Waltuck. She is survived by husband John Schiff and her bonus children, Michael and Kathryn of Austin, TX; her father, Morey Waltuck and her Bonus Mom, Mary Waltuck of Foxboro, MA, her brother Dan Waltuck, his wife AJ and their children, Ella, Graham, Gage and Austin of Austin, TX; her brother Ben Waltuck, his wife Melissa and their children, Sofia and Ari of Newton, MA; her Step-Brother Brian Weed, his wife Carolyn and their children, Allison and Gianna of Mendon, MA and a multitude of much loved Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel 475 Washington Street, Canton, followed by interment at Sharon Memorial Park.
