Born in Boston on June 5, 1928 to Mary (Vigor) and Benjamin Zeitler, she lived in various sections of Boston before moving to Needham, where she lived for 50 years with her beloved husband of 70 years, the late Benjamin D. Soble. Thelma is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Carol E. Soble (Michael Shibley) of Takoma Park, MD, Joan S. Soble (Scott Ketcham) of Quincy, and Lauren J. Amidon (Ron) of Sarasota, FL. She also leaves behind her adored and adoring grandchildren, Rabbi Daniel S. Shibley (wife Dr. Devora Isseroff) and Beth S. Getzandanner (husband Kenneth); and treasured great-grandsons, Adam J. Getzandanner and Benjamin D. Shibley. Thelma loved, and was also much loved, by her two sisters and their husbands, Elayne Z. Selig (deceased) and Martin, and Myrna Z. Schwack and Howard, as well as by her sister-in-law Erline Soble and many devoted nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends were always what shaped Thelma’s days, whether that meant preparing a holiday dinner for relatives and her daughters’ friends who were far from home, taking an elderly relative to a doctor’s appointment, or composing a humorous multi-stanza poem to commemorate a happy occasion in a relative’s life.
Thelma and Ben shared many interests: classical music, gardening, the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle. But what they loved most was sitting side-by-side on the family room sofa while watching television, reading, or simply talking.
The family will always be grateful to the Orchard Cove staff, who, in addition to caring for Thelma with great skill and respect, loved her.
