My admiral, farewell. Your brig is off its moorings,
and for its final sail it now has left the port.
No lamentations here; pathetic outpourings
you held in low regard. We'll throw them overboard.

These days, without you, across this stormy ocean
it's hard to find the route, if even one exists.
Your inner compass held steadfast in every motion
to find the bearing true between the rocks and mists.

My admiral, thank you - for every word of cheer,
the gold of your advice, your wit's quicksilver flash.
Your ship has left the port, but we will always hear
the echo of your waves, your oars' distinctive splash.

Natalya Grigoryevna and Vladlen Noevich were an absolutely terrific couple of wonderful, friendly, positive people who loved each other, with a great sense of humor and a desire to help. They lived together for 67 years, and from the outside, at least, it seemed that they never quarreled, they simply had no disagreements. For me, their family always served as a "role model": looking at them, I believed (and still believe), that I see - aha, this is how ideally relationships should be built between spouses, between parents and children, between grandparents and grandchildren (and even great-grandchildren!). In addition, Dima's parents became true friends of their children's friends, which was also always a subject of sincere admiration. V.N. was distinguished by an active life position (no matter how pathetic it sounds). During perestroika, he was an independent candidate for the Oktyabrsky District Council (the most progressive at the time), and was elected, defeating some nomenklatura candidate (unlike whom V.N.  went to EVERY apartment in the polling district, tried to meet and get to know all the voters, find out everyone's wishes - he also approached the work of a deputy just as informally). I knew both of Dima's parents well, we communicated in Moscow, and the USA. We went on canoeing trips together, where Vladlen Noevich was the admiral, but he was also the leader of his large family flotilla. 

Farewell, Admiral, your brig has cast off its moorings, it has set sail for the last time. Let's throw pathetics overboard: I know very well that you have never liked it. But, dear Admiral, without you it is now so difficult to find the right route in the seas and oceans: your internal compass was always accurate, it served as our guide between the waves and rocks. Thank you, Admiral, for the joy of every meeting, serious conversations and the sparkle of subtle jokes, your ship has sailed away, but somewhere nearby the splash of familiar oars is so clearly discernible.

Наталья Григорьевна и Владлен Ноевич были совершенно чудесной парой любящих друг друга замечательных доброжелательных позитивных людей с прекрасным чувством юмора и стремлением помочь. Они прожили вместе 67 лет, и со стороны, по крайней мере, казалось, что никогда не то, что не ссорились, у них просто не было разногласий. Для меня их семья всегда служила в качестве "ролевой модели": глядя на них, я полагал (и, полагаю сейчас), что вижу - ага, вот так в идеале должны строиться отнеошения между супругами, между родителями и детьми, между дедушками-бабушками и внуками (и даже правнуками!). Кроме того, Димины родители стали настоящими друзьями друзей своих детей, что тоже всегда было предметом искреннего восхищения. В.Н. отличала активная жизненная позиция (как ни выспренне это звучит). Во время перестройки он был самовыдвиженцем в депутаты Октябрьского райсовета (самого прогрессивного тогда) и таки был избран, победив какого-то номенклатурного кандидата (в отличие от которого Владлен Ноевич обошел КАЖДУЮ квартиру избирательного участка, постарался встретиться и познакомиться со всеми избирателями, узнать пожелания каждого - столь же неформально он подходил и к самой работе депутата). Я хорошо знал обоих Диминых родителей, общались и в Москве, и в США, и не только. Вместе ходили в байдарочные походы, где Владлен Ноевич был неизменным адмиралом, но он также был лидером, адмиралом и своей чудесной многочисленной семейной флотилии. Прощайте, Адмирал, Ваш бриг отдал швартовы, В последний раз ушел Он в плаванье свое… Патетику - за борт: Прекрасно знаю, что Вы Не слыли никогда Любителем ее. Но правильный маршрут В морях и океанах Без Вас теперь искать Так трудно, Адмирал: Ваш внутренний компАс Был точным непрестанно, Ориентиром нам Служил меж волн и скал. Спасибо, Адмирал, За радость каждой встречи, Серьезный разговор И тонких шуток блеск, Корабль Ваш уплыл, Но где-то недалече Так ясно различим Знакомых вёсел всплеск...

Очень больно терять близких людей. Я счастлива,что встретила вас и достаточное время была с вами, разделяя радостные и грустные моменты нашей жизни. Наши встречи,интересные поездки,долгие беседы-все это навсегда со мной. Спасибо вам за душевное тепло,поддержку и доброту. Помню,люблю,скучаю. Ваша  Лида.

I met Vladlen Noevich and Natalia Grigoryevna when I was in college with Galya. They were a kind and truly decent couple—always attentive to their loved ones and friends. I remember with great warmth the times we spent together, especially when we went skiing in New Hampshire with the Zelevinsky family.

Even at this poignant moment our memories of Vladlen Noyevich are and will probably remain filled with cheerfulness, decency, care and humility. His erudite, lightly sarcastic conversation style was very unique and unforgettable. May his memory be a blessing.

A wonderful man, always a source of light.  I remember him since 1972.

I have beautiful memories of having dinners with Natasha and Vlad.  It was a fun and engaging way for me to practice my Russian and for them to practice their English.  Our time was full of smiles and laughter.

I'm grateful that my Russian professor, Anna Bobrova, introduced me to Natasha and Vlad many years ago.

May they rest in peace.

I recall him vividly although it was many years ago. He went with many classmates of his younger son to a winter trip. And almost all teenagers got a severe flu. He was one of several adults that handled us all never losing patience. He was very nice and and in an instance everyone saw him as such.
